World Corporate Cup of Soccer

World Corporate Cup of Soccer MASON Owen’s finest footballing talents showed off their skills at last month’s World Corporate Cup of Soccer.

Mason Owen fielded an eight-strong squad for the tournament which consisted of ten groups of five teams from across the UK and Europe.

Michael Williams, Tom Jamson, Keith Burn, David Legat, Will Thomas, Paul Cooper and Andrew Owen all donned the blue and white Mason Owen shirts, while Andrew Turberville took his place in goals.

The boys in blue came up against stiff competition throughout the group stages from company teams such as 02, Tesco, Prêt a Manger and even LFC.

Michael Williams, Mason Owen team captain, said: “The Mason Owen team won three, drew one and lost one and were proud to finish top of our group due of course to our quality football - and some fine finishing from Andy and Paul.

“This got us through to the knockout stages where we came up against Deloitte at Anfield.

“By this point we were playing like Barcelona, complete with one touch passing and dribbling skills Messi would have been proud of - that’s my story anyway.

“We won 2-0 and were chuffed to be through to the last 16.”

The exhausted Mason Owen boys were then put through an agonising and energy-sapping two hour wait before their next kick-off against a little-known Croatian side called Pilver who eventually won 1-0.

Michael added: “They deserved the win and then went on to lift the tournament trophy.
